What is a lumber crown?
Answer A curve in a wood board.
Lumber boards are almost never actually straight; if you look down a board's narrowest dimensional edge, you can see a slight arch (known as the crown). Carpenters are always careful to place the crown facing the building's exterior; if a wall bows out, it's easier to straighten the wall from the inside by adding fitting strips to the framing behind the drywall.
