When it comes to the battle of noble professions, it's hard to compete with Jesus Christ - carpentry is about as honorable as they come. Of course, Jesus didn't exactly labor on commercial crews erecting strip malls. While the image of a lone worker, hair flowing and hammer in hand, is definitely more quaint, the field of carpentry encompasses everything from a solitary chair maker to a heavy-labor commercial construction team. They are all working hard — in a job that is both dangerous and not extremely well-paid.

Like Pounding Nails?

Many of us enjoy swinging a hammer every now and then (that moment of impact is sure satisfying, isn't it?) But if you think that there's not much more to carpentry than that, think again. Sure, it's a profession that you can get started in with almost zero experience — but after that, the sky's the limit as far as areas of expertise to develop. Carpentry involves complex problem-solving, a huge number of hand and power tools that require experience to operate, and a high-stakes work environment where a mistake could cost you big.
