What country controls Easter Island?

2,100 miles from the Chilean mainland is the small Polynesian place called Easter Island. It is so named because its first recorded European visitor, the Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen, encountered it on Easter Sunday, 1722. Today, it is most famous for its moai statues of giant heads, constructed by the early Rapa Nui people.
