Have you ever wondered why the captain dims the lights in preparation for landing? No, it's not to set the mood (although, it does make everyone a bit sleepy). The cabin lights are dimmed in order to allow passengers' eyes to adjust to the darkness in case the aircraft must be evacuated upon landing in a state of emergency.
