The Viper wasn't just a car - it was a phenomenon. 400 horsepower from a brutish 8.0-liter V10, a manual transmission, no windows, and so safety assists. Sounds like a death wish - or the sweetest dream. And while later Vipers were just as great, it's the extreme first generation that has the right to call itself a modern classic.
