Name this classic 1935 crime drama about an Irish rebel who betrays his friend to avoid starvation.
Answer The Informer
Director John Ford played a wee trick on his lead actor Victor McLaglen during the production of The Informer. The day before McLaglen was to shoot a dramatic courtroom scene, Ford informed the actor that he wouldn't be needed the following day and should go out and enjoy himself that evening. McLaglen did as told and got blind drunk. Surprise! The next morning, he was called to the set and forced to do the scene with a horrible hangover, which Ford knew would enhance the tense scene. McLaglen did not appreciate the director's ingenuity and threatened to quit the film.
