Listen up, cinephiles! Can you match the poster image to the vintage film? Here's your chance to prove your movie mastery!
A picture is worth a thousand words, as the old saying goes. In the case of a movie poster, however, it can be worth a whole heck of a lot more than that. The right image can make or break a film's success at the box office. At its most basic, a movie poster functions as an advertisement. The goal is to create something both eye-catching and informative in some way: it must first draw the viewer in and then provide some sense of what the film is about. First impressions matter.
The most successful posters become iconic images, instantly recognizable and forever associated with the film. Think of Matthew Broderick's impish grin on the Ferris Bueller's Day Off poster or the two fingertips — one human and one alien — reaching out to touch each other on the E.T. poster. And the very finest posters of all are true works of art in their own right.
This vintage movie poster quiz takes you down movie memory lane all the way back to the beginning. Have fun!
