"Chariots of Fire" by Vangelis, from the movie of the same name, hit the top of the charts for one week in early 1982, and was the first instrumental to hit #1 since Herb Alpert's "Rise" three years earlier, in 1979. Vangelis was born Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou (you can see why he went by a stage name), and was known for his electronic and orchestral music.
