When the 1980s started out, Rupert Holmes held the number one spot on the Billboard charts. By the time 1989 took its last breath, it was Phil Collins who held the top spot. In between there was a crazy mix of hair bands, New Wave music, singer/songwriters, pop bands from Australia, and everything else under the sun. Musically, it was a decade unlike any other.
