At the temple where Jesus turns over the tables, he says that if they destroy the temple, he will raise it up in three days, metaphorically referring to his resurrection. How long did the people say it took to build the physical temple where they stood?
Answer 46 years
The temple went through many phases. After it was destroyed by Babylon in 586 BC, the Jews returned to rebuild it into a functioning workspace, some 70 years later. Herod the Great, trying to regain favor with the Jews, started a refurbishing process of the temple to return it to its magnificence. The Jews indicate that the newest stage of construction started 46 years ago and, like some of our highways, seemed to always be under construction.
