At the opening of Ephesians 1, for what does Paul say that we were predestined?

Through Christ, the son of God, we were given the path to be adopted into God's family, as sons and daughters of the Father, God himself. He doesn't want to present himself as a boss or a dictator, but as a patriarch of a loving family.
