The Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes is a very cool place in Alaska that resulted from the eruption of Novarupta in 1912. After the eruption subsided, thousands of fumaroles vented steam from the ash. While most of the fumaroles are now extinct, and it's no longer filled with smoke, you can see nearby signs of volcanic activity on the hills surrounding the valley.
