You find yourself surprised by a flash flood. It hasn't reached your door step but the streets are filling up with water. What do you do?
Answer Turn off your utilities: electrical breakers, water, oil and/or gas. Then seek higher ground!
If you find yourself in the early stages of a flash flood, it's most likely already too late. In this case, if your home is still dry, turn off all your utilities: electricity at the breaker box, and gas, propane, water or oil at the point where they enter your house. If there is still time, move personal belongings upstairs to protect them from flood damage. It is not advisable to do so once water has entered the house. Once this is complete, find safe higher ground as fast as possible.
