You can't discuss #1 duets of the 1980s without a mention of "Islands in the Stream". What author's novel inspired the name of this Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton classic?

Answer Ernest Hemingway

Ernest Hemingway's book Islands in the Stream was one of his posthumous books, published in 1970. The hit song, named for the Hemingway story, was actually originally written to be performed by Marvin Gaye, but was restyled for Kenny Rogers, and ended up on his album Eyes That See in the Dark. It stayed at number one for 2 weeks in late 1983.
