You can keep a fire going in a downpour of rain by covering it with a large piece of 'rotten' or 'punky' wood. True or False?

Answer True

I have used this method many times to keep a fire going for hours and even days as the big piece of wood won't burn fast, it blocks the rain and it continues to burn slowly underneath. Just don't press it down too hard and snuff out your fire underneath. I'm talking about quite a large piece or pieces of wood to make this work by the way.
