The term Xperia is taken from the word "experience," and was originally used in the slogan for Xperia X1: "I Xperia the best." It grew out of the partnership between Sony and Ericsson before being re-branded in 2012. This was because Sony took over sole manufacture of the products and wanted to lose the Ericsson part of their name.
