Although Meryl Streep eventually surpassed her in nominations, Katharine Hepburn still tops the list of highest number of Best Actress Oscar wins. With her patrician manner and iconic mid-Atlantic accent, Hepburn's physical presence was made even more distinctive by the head tremor she developed in later life. Widely believed to be due to Parkinson's disease, her shaking was actually caused by a much milder condition called essential tremor. In her own words, "I inherited my shaking head from my grandfather Hepburn. I discovered that whiskey helps stop the shaking. Problem is, if you're not careful, it stops the rest of you too. My head just shakes, but I promise you, it ain't gonna fall off!"
