Why do EMTs wear gloves?

The gloves are worn to protect both the EMTs and the patients from exposure to vomit, urine or fecal matter, or from contracting or spreading contagious viruses, diseases or bacteria. These gloves used to be made of latex, but due to an increase in cases of latex allergies, they are now made up of neoprene so as not to add dangerous allergic reactions on top of illness or injury.
