Lawrence "Buck" Shaw was hired as the first coach of the San Francisco 49ers in 1946. He coached for the 49ers through the 1954 season, then for the Air Force Academy varsity team, but came back to the NFL in 1958 to coach for the Philadelphia Eagles for three seasons.
