Who was the first black actor to win Best Actor at the Academy Awards?
Answer Sidney Poitier
Poitier took home top acting honors in 1963 for "Lilies in the Field." He'd been nominated for Best Actor once before, for 1958's "The Defiant Ones." The Bahamas-born actor was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1974.
