Who started the tradition of the department store Santa?
Answer James Edgar
In 1890, savvy entrepreneur James Edgar, or "Colonel Jim," had the first department store Santa in his store in Brockton, Massachusetts. It wasn't long before other stores followed suit, a tradition still in practice today. Although the Santa at Macy's in New York is often considered the "real" Santa, he was not the first department store Santa.
