The Carnatic singer, Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi, has seen a lot of firsts. Not only was she the first musician to receive India's Bharat Ratna award and the Ramon Magsaysay award (known as "Asia's Nobel Prize"), but she was the first Indian to perform at the UN General Assembly in 1966.
