Who is this actor that was as well known for his suspenseful roles such as in the Nazi Thriller "Journey into Fear" and Hitchcock's "Shadow of a Doubt," as for his tender romances such as "Portrait of Jennie" and "Love Letters" both co-starring with Jennifer Jones?

Answer Joseph Cotten

Tall and slim, Joseph Cotten began as a professional football player, earning $25 a quarter to help pay his family back for a loan to attend school. He then worked as an advertising agent, then a theater critic, which led him to be interested in acting. Cotten met and became good friends with Orson Welles who admired his comic talent, and collaborated with him on some films of a more serious nature including "Citizen Kane" and "The Magnificent Ambersons." Cotten was a four-time co-star with Jennifer Jones and also enjoyed making films with Bette Davis, Agnes Moorehead and Marilyn Monroe.
