Who is the furry fiend who famously chases Road Runner around the desert?

Wile E. Coyote is famous for chasing Road Runner around various desert settings. Road Runner doesn't even work too hard to avoid Wile E.'s attempts to catch him since Wile E. himself usually winds up getting caught in his own traps. Some of his most famous weapons of choice are boulders (which always fall on him), TNT (which always explodes on him when he is within range) and anvils (again, they only ever hit Wile E.).
