Who is credited with creating the modern picture of Santa Claus, with his fur-lined suit and sack of presents for children?

Answer Thomas Nast

Cartoonist Thomas Nast was heavily influenced by the popular poem "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" (credited to Clement Clarke Moore) when he created his iconic images of Santa, the first of which was published in Harper's Weekly in 1863. Washington Irving is often credited with bringing many of the Christmas traditions to America in his writings. Haddon Sundblom's popular Coca-Cola ads of the early 1930s further immortalized the image of Santa Claus.
