The name dik-dik is an onomatopoeia of the repetitive sound females make through their tubular snouts when under threat. Barely over 12 inches on average, dik-diks have many fierce predators including leopards, hyenas, jackals, hawks, and lions. The species has survived due to excellent eyesight and impressive speed (up to 42 km per hour).
