Playing gloomier characters more recently, Bill Murray started off his big-screen career portraying loudmouths and buffoons in a string of box office hits. Which one is this?
Answer Stripes
Director/producer Ivan Reitman originally envisioned Stripes as a Cheech and Chong vehicle but wasn't down with the Up in Smoke's insistence on complete creative control. Murray signed on, contingent on one thing: that real-life pal Harold Ramis be brought on board to play his character's friend as well as to tailor the script for the two of them. As you might expect, the two sketch comedy veterans ended up improvising a good portion of the dialogue anyway.
