While everyone was distracted, what two countries invaded Iran for oil supplies in 1941?
Answer Great Britain and the Soviet Union
Known as the Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran, the joint invasion – codename: Operation Countenance – lasted just under a month in the fall of 1941 and successfully shored up Allied supply lines for the USSR on the Eastern Front. Iran was officially neutral, but their leader, Reza Shah, seemed to be chummy with Hitler, so they later put his son, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, in his place.
