Riddle uses her to open the Chamber of Secrets. Ultimately, she's taken hostage inside the chamber, where Riddle intends to kill her as a sacrfiice that will make his memory human. Before Riddle can do the deed, Harry steps in. He destroys Riddle's diary and saves Ginny.
