Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota housed intercontinental ballistic missiles, bombers and refueling planes making it a major strategic facility during the Cold War. In fact, so many nuclear weapons were located there, that if North Dakota were a country, it would have been the third-largest nuclear power in the world.
