Which scammer sold Mona Lisa forgeries after art thieving the real painting?
Answer Eduardo de Valfierno
If you found a back alley deal on the Mona Lisa after it was reported missing, would you take it? That's what swindler Eduardo de Valfierno convinced buyers to do by commissioning forgeries by French artist Yves Chaudron, before bribing museum employee Vincenzo Peruggia to steal the famous canvas from the Louvre in 1911. And he probably would have gotten away with it too, if Peruggia hadn't attempted to sell the real thing to Florence's Uffizi Gallery in 1932.
