Australia is not a particularly mountainous country, with its tallest mountain rising only 7,310′ above sea level, Mount Kosciuszko is located in the state of New South Wales, and was named by Polish explorer Paul Strzelecki in 1840 after Polish cultural and political hero Tadeusz Kosciuszko.
