Which popular London museum is housed in a converted power station?
Answer Tate Modern
The Tate Gallery acquired the cavernous Bankside Power Station in 1994 and moved its modern collection into the renovated space in 2000. The same year, the Millennium Bridge opened, linking the museum to the grand St. Paul's Cathedral across the Thames - a connection that would have been avoided at all costs a century before. An 1899 publication summarized the grim conditions of the industrial Southwark area at the time: the "number, viciousness, poverty and crowding is unrivalled [sic] in anything I have hitherto seen in London … the inhabitants are … the dregs of the population."
