Which Italian city's cathedral is often referred to simply as, "the Duomo"?
Answer Florence
Construction on Florence's cathedral began in the late 13th century and took over 150 years to complete. The hold-up was largely due to the engineering challenge of constructing the massive, self-supporting dome ("duomo"). Filippo Brunelleschi came up with an ingenious solution —building a dome within the dome — and went on to become one of the leading architects of the Renaissance.
