Lord Albert, the son of Queen Victoria, once called Jaipur the "pink city", and it seems the name stuck. And it was actually due to his visit that the city was painted pink by the Maharaja Ram Singh, as it's considered the color of hospitality. It's a good thing he did, or else we wouldn't have the stunning Hawa Mahal, otherwise known as the "Palace of the Winds".
