Which Dutch Baroque master was an especially prolific self-portraitist, producing almost 100 images of himself from his early career until the year he died?
Answer Rembrandt
Considered one of the greatest artists in history, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606-69) was a master painter, draughtsman and printmaker whose work depicted a far-reaching range of subjects, including portraits, landscapes, animal studies, mythological and biblical scenes. But the intimate self-portraits he created over the course of his lifetime were remarkably plain, always rendered with a simple backdrop. In his later years, he added a black velvet cap, as in this work from 1660.
