Forever etched in our collective memories, which deadly event occurred on May 6, 1937?

Answer Hindenburg disaster

The largest aircraft in history, the Hindenburg was an 804-foot dirigible built by the German company Luftschiffbau Zeppelin. The ship was finishing its tenth transatlantic trip as it came in to land at Lakehurst, New Jersey, 97 people aboard, when it suddenly caught fire and exploded. In one of the most famous radio broadcasts in history, Herb Morrison reported, "It's burst into flames.... Get out of the way, please, oh my, this is terrible...Oh, the humanity and all the passengers."
