Hagrid is a gentle half-giant who's been interested in strange creatures since his own time as a Hogwarts student. In fact, it's his love of magical beasts that gets him expelled during his third year. During Harry's time at Hogwarts, Hagrid is a member of the faculty, having been hired by Dumbledore right after his expulsion. He lives in a hut near the Forbidden Forest and is close friends with Harry; at times, he acts as his bodyguard, too.
