Morrison selected the band's name after reading Aldous Huxley's The Doors of Perception, whose name was in turn inspired by a passage from William Blake's book "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell." The quote follows: "If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro’ narrow chinks of his cavern.”
