Duvel is a variety of strong Belgian ale manufactured by the family-owned Duvel Moortgat Brewery, founded in the Antwerp, Belgium in 1871. The name “Duvel” is the Antwerp dialect for “devil” — which is what the beer was described as in the 1920s when it was introduced due to its high 8.5% ABV content.
