What is the birthplace of the culinary concoction known as poutine?

Sometime in the 1950s, to the undoubted dismay of their Gallic cousins back in the homeland, the French-speaking Canadians of Québec invented the home-cookin' heart attack on a plate known as poutine. Canada's unofficial national dish, poutine is comprised of three simple ingredients: french fries (naturally), gravy, and cheese curds. The word poutine is slang, appropriately, for "mess".
