Where did hot cocoa (the powder form) originate?
Answer Netherlands
Although consumed at times other than Christmas, hot cocoa, especially with candy canes, marshmallows or other additions, is a popular drink during Christmas time to help keep warm. Hot chocolate differs from hot cocoa in that hot chocolate is made from bar chocolate, so it contains cocoa butter while hot cocoa comes from a powder that removes the cocoa butter. Chocolate drinks date back to the Mayans more than 2,000 years ago, but cocoa powder is more recent, with experts tracing its origin to the Netherlands in 1828.
