The stage name 'John Wayne' wasn't Marion's idea. Where did the name come from?

Wayne wanted to go with 'Duke Morrison'. Thinking that was more worthy of a stuntman, a Fox Studios head suggested the name John Wayne, after Revolutionary War General Anthony Wayne, of whom he was a fan. 'John Wayne' does have a better ring to it.
