Answer Duke Kahanamoku
Duke Kahanamoku was born into a small aristocratic family towards the end of the Kingdom of Hawaii, shortly before the monarchy was overthrown. He survived to see the territory admitted as a state and became a citizen of the United States. He was a five-time Olympic gold medalist - in 1912 and 1920.
