What was Voltron?

Voltron was a super-robot who could only be constructed by joining together smaller vehicles. "Voltron: Defender of the Universe" was the most popular cartoon for two years during its run on TV. Originally, Voltron was built by the joining of five lion robot vehicles. In a subsequent season, it took 15 smaller vehicles, all with various special areas of expertise.
