What is now Regent's Park was acquired by the Crown in the 1500s after the dissolution of the monasteries. The Prince Regent suggested converting it into a recreational garden in the early 1800s. John Nash, James, and Decimus Burton designed the park. In fact, James funded its construction personally when the Crown Estate withdrew its promise to do so.
