What religious leader won a landslide victory in Iran following the collapse of the government, making him the head of Iran's Islamic Republic?
Answer Ayatollah Khomeini
Khomeini was outspoken about his opposition to Westernization and the Shah's government. He was arrested and exiled in 1964. From exile, he urged those in favor of an Islamic State to overthrow the Shah. He became a national hero from afar. The Shah lost much of his popularity and Iran was thrown into a state of revolution.
