This New Jersey city might want to rethink its name. What city's namesake was a turncoat Revolutionary War general?

Answer Fort Lee

Fort Lee, New Jersey was named after Continental General Charles Lee. After being passed over for Commander-in-Chief, which instead went to Washington, George tried to keep the peace by naming Fort Lee after Charles in 1776. Not long after, the British captured Lee, who offered advice on how to seize Philadelphia. After this treason (which remained under wraps at the time), he was returned to the Continental Army in a prisoner swap, but was later court-martialed by Washington and dismissed after he had ordered his men to retreat at the Battle of Monmouth.
