What mouse always seemed to escape the clutches of Tom?

The concept of a "cat and mouse" game was never so famously displayed as it was by Tom chasing Jerry. For years, the losing cat loved to try and bait Jerry with cheese and traps, but the little brown mouse always managed to escape the feline's clutches one way or another.
