What Mexican state was part of the First Mexican Empire as part of Guatemala, declared independence in 1823, then reincorporated into Mexico in 1824?
Answer Chiapas
The Mexican state of Chiapas was part of the First Mexican Empire until 1823 when it declared independence. In 1824, Chiapas decided to become part of Mexico, however the Soconusco region of Chiapas broke off to become part of the United Provinces of Central America as a part of Guatemala. In 1842, members of the Mexican army occupied Soconusco, claiming it for Mexico, but its annexation wouldn't be recognized by Guatemala until 1895.
